The right to education is a fundamental human right and UNESCO aims at education for all by 2015.

India possesses a highly developed education system which offers facility of education and training in almost all aspects of creative & intellectual human endeavors. Before independence, access to higher education was very limited and elitist, with enrolment of less than a million students in 500 colleges and 20 universities. The government intends to increase the Gross Enrolment Ration to 30% by 2020 and one of the major catalysts in propelling this percentage is Distance Education.

As India is a nation of young people; out of a population of above 1.2 billion,672 million people are in the age-group of 15 to 64 years, which is often treated as the working age population. Distance Education has a far more significant role to play in the present scenario as the demand for skilled manpower is ever growing in our economy.

Students today are enrolling for various distance learning degree or diploma programs in order to enhance their qualifications and skills.
People who are working or have their own business cannot go to regular colleges due to time constraint so distance education is a boon/blessing for them.
